A prototype of a Macintosh Portable

Seen on eBay, a refurbished prototype of the Macintosh Portable. Sold for $6,500, the computer has been modified: a new hard drive (with the same capacity), modern capacitors (the most common issue at that time), and a « new » battery (its components have been replaced). I’m a bit puzzled by the concept of a modified prototype, but why not.
