It’s unique: there’s an Apple FireDrill card on eBay. This PCI card was never officially released (dating back to 1997) and was intended to accelerate audio and video processing with dedicated chips (32-bit processors clocked at 100 MHz).

The first iPad from Apple

Fun fact, during one of Apple’s (many) trials, a prototype of an iPad surfaced. It dates back to 2002 and looks like an iBook screen without the iBook. In a 4:3 aspect ratio (already), it measured 1 inch thick (2.5 cm) and was powered by a Pentium M (already as well). This mockup 035 was abandoned quite quickly, or rather, the project was put on hold, for Apple to develop the iPhone before revisiting the iPad a bit later.

EVT, DVT, PVT

When talking about Apple prototypes, you sometimes come across terms like EVT, DVT, or PVT. Here’s a brief explanation based on the information I’ve found (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong).

Spotted on eBay, a prototype of the PowerBook Pismo, the last of the PowerBooks equipped with a G3 processor (here at 500 MHz). It’s a PVT, essentially a near-final version, and it comes with a 4 GB PATA SSD (essentially a CompactFlash card). And it’s up for sale.
