Seen (again) on eBay, an iPhone EDGE running Skankphone, Apple’s test OS. (again) because it was previously offered in January and in April. Something to note, it was offered for about $4,000 in previous instances, it started at $0 with a limit not yet reached as I write this (around $100).

« Sighted on eBay (already seen multiple times here and here), a prototype of a 17-inch MacBook Pro. It’s a Core 2 Duo from 2006 (featuring a Radeon X1600) and it’s listed for $5,500.

Spotted on eBay, (yet again) an iPhone 6 prototype. Sold for $7,400 on October 8th, it’s an original T-Mobile (USA) iPhone 6 16GB model running on SwitchBoard, the test OS.

A prototype of a 4th generation iPod

Seen on eBay, a 4th generation iPod prototype. It’s engraved with ‘DVT,’ indicating it’s a prototype, and it boasts a 40GB hard drive. Priced at $4,500, nonetheless. »

Spotted on eBay, a prototype of an iPhone EDGE. The screen is shattered, it has a prototype sticker, and it’s running on SkankPhone, well, kind of: it’s a dual boot with a standard iOS, apparently achieved by performing the same hack as mine. It was at $765 on October 8th, quite a price tag (and it’s not over yet).

In France, prototypes are also received. Free recently sent Varoujan Papazian an iPhone 6 running on SwitchBoard. You can find photos and a video of the device on his website.

Seen on eBay, a prototype iPad mini running SwitchBoard, the testing OS. It’s quite pricey (over $700), but in good condition, which is rare: prototypes are usually damaged once testing is done.

Several prototypes showcased in an exhibition

At Portland’s Design Week, Jim Abeles, an Apple prototype specialist, is showcasing a part of his collection. This provides an opportunity to explore some interesting models, including an iPad with two dock connectors. More information available here, here, and here.

A PowerBook G3 prototype

Spotted on eBay, a piece of a PowerBook G3 prototype. Given the code name (P8), it appears to be a Pismo model, which means it’s the FireWire version. Bidding starts low.
