A prototype of an Apple Interactive Television Box

Spotted at Henry Plain’s place (again): an Apple Interactive Television Box. It’s the American version of this precursor to the Apple TV, dating back to the nineties. I’ve mentioned it here and there.

A prototype of an iPod nano

Seen on eBay, a mockup of a 4th generation iPod nano. Sold for $725 (apparently), this was a non-functional prototype of the iPod nano likely used for testing, probably for accessory manufacturers.

A prototype of a 13-inch MacBook Pro

Spotted on eBay, a purported prototype of a 13-inch MacBook Pro according to the seller. The photos and comments aren’t very explicit.

A prototype of a PowerBook 180c

Spotted on Flickr, a prototype of the PowerBook 180c that resembles the world’s ugliest Mac.

A NeXTstation prototype

Seen on eBay, a prototype of a computer that isn’t a Mac but is still connected to Apple: a NeXTstation. It’s a prototype of the successor to the NeXTcube, the machine on which the World Wide Web was invented. The machine is functional, clearly marked as a prototype, and is being sold for $2,500 along with a NeXT printer and a NeXT monitor.

A prototype keyboard

Seen at Henry Plain’s, an Apple keyboard prototype. It seems to have been stored under direct sunlight, given its color: white plastics typically turn yellow only when exposed to UV rays.

A prototype of a 2012 MacBook Air

Seen on eBay, a prototype of the 2012 13-inch MacBook Air.

A prototype of a Macintosh Portable

Seen on eBay, a refurbished prototype of the Macintosh Portable. Sold for $6,500, the computer has been modified: a new hard drive (with the same capacity), modern capacitors (the most common issue at that time), and a « new » battery (its components have been replaced). I’m a bit puzzled by the concept of a modified prototype, but why not.

Two Apple mouse prototypes

Seen at Henry Plain’s place, two mice. Two classics, but it’s always interesting. The first one is transparent, like an iMac, a pretty successful design for a mouse, in my opinion.

Beta ROMs

Seen on eBay, two beta ROMs for old Macs. The first, code-named Rafiki, for a Mac IIsi, and the second for a Power Mac 8500, with the associated processor.
