A Macintosh Twiggy prototype

I had mentioned it a few weeks ago, a Macintosh Twiggy (with a 5.25-inch floppy drive) was sold at auction. What I hadn’t noticed, and a reader pointed out to me, is that a video of the machine had been posted on YouTube, showing some images of the system from that time, including Steve Jobs’ face in the interface. Quite amusing.

Spotted on a forum, a black chrome iPod touch prototype. Quite a change from the classic model.

A transparent prototype of a Newton MessagePad 110

Spotted on eBay, a transparent Newton (MessagePad 110) with its accessories. The price is high ($1,100), but not outrageous.

A prototype of a Macintosh floppy disk drive

Spotted on eBay, a prototype Macintosh floppy disk drive. This external drive reads 400 KB 3.5-inch disks and is compatible with the Macintosh (128k) and Macintosh 512k. A prototype of a Macintosh mouse

A $1,000 Mouse, Anyone? On eBay, there’s a prototype of a Macintosh mouse listed for that price. What makes this mouse special? It has an angled connector instead of a straight one.

An iPhone EDGE prototype

Seen on eBay, a prototype iPhone running Skankphone, Apple’s test OS. This isn’t the first time (I talked about it here and here), and it’s a model with 8GB of storage, whereas prototypes are often 4GB models. As always, the price is high: $4,000…

A 17-inch PowerBook G4 prototype

Seen at Henry’s, a reader who has quite a few Apple prototypes, the first 17-inch PowerBook G4. The machine is quite surprising in one aspect: Apple had apparently intended to release it with a shinier, chrome-like casing than the final model, which is made of brushed aluminum.

A prototype of a 4 GB white iPhone 4

Spotted on eBay, a prototype of a 4 GB white iPhone 4. It appears to be the same as the one seen in May 2013 and possibly the same as the one seen in April of the same year.
