A prototype of the first iPhone in the form of a motherboard

The Verge recently published an article about an interesting iPhone prototype: a rather imposing development board. It looks quite similar to the board I showcased back in 2015, for the iPhone 3G.

A prototype of an external Apple SuperDrive… in 2003

On eBay, from time to time, we see interesting prototypes, like this external SuperDrive (in FireWire) dating back to 2003. The asking price seems quite high ($2,500).

A prototype of an Apple Set Top Box in a video

I have talked quite a few times about the Apple TV from the nineties, but this time, I stumbled upon a prototype of this product that was never released. By the way, if you have any idea how to find a unit, I’m interested (I know that Plein Câble, in Issy-les-Moulineaux, tested it).

Hail Satan hidden within the music of a CD

From time to time, you may hear, « Wait, there are messages about Satan in this music. » And what if it were true? In my searches for CDs with strange stuff, I came across an example of this kind.

Hidden text in a track on an Information Society CD

I have a fondness for CDs with bizarre content, you might have noticed. And on a CD by the group Information Society, there’s something really strange. The twelfth track of the album Peace and love, inc. actually contains text.

A prototype of an iMac with an Nvidia GPU

Seen on eBay: a prototype of an iMac (well, a motherboard, actually) with a particularity, an Nvidia graphics card.

A prototype of Pippin in my collection

Recently, I managed to obtain something interesting for collectors: a development Pippin. It’s a « prototype » model very close to the final version. Apart from an inscription that uses the old name (Power Player), it is technically identical to a standard Pippin.

A prototype of Macintosh IIcx

Another prototype on eBay, this time a Macintosh IIcx. This machine is a DVT model, meaning a machine whose development is not yet complete. It is in rather poor physical condition and does not start up according to the seller. He was asking for $2,500 for it.

A Thunderbolt cable prototype

The long series of prototypes for sale on eBay ends with something rather surprising: a Thunderbolt cable. Listed at $400 (auction) and $1,000 for immediate purchase, it is gray with black connectors, and a sticker indicates that it comes from Apple, specifically from the development teams. It’s worth noting that the price isn’t much higher than that of a retail Thunderbolt cable.

A first-generation iPod prototype

More prototypes, this time featuring a first-generation iPod (P95) with a 10 GB hard drive. As expected for a DVT prototype, the device’s motherboard is red. The price of $60,000 seems a bit exaggerated, even considering it’s a product of the brand’s revival.
